The second of the Numbered Treaties, called the Manitoba Post Treaty, was signed within a month of Treaty 1. The conditions of the Stone Fort Treaty were well publicized among the bands of Manitoba, so the negotiations for the second treaty were speedily concluded on the same terms. This treaty involved the Saulteaux, Cree, and other groups of the Lake Manitoba region. The Canadian government's intentions of opening the West for settlement were made possible by the willingness of Manitoba's Natives to negotiate terms of surrender.
